Acid attack burns three including minor in Bogra district

With the concern of the growing acid attack incident in recent months, on 17 May 2022, the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) arranged the 14th Legal Advisory Group (LAG) meeting with their legal aid partner organizations at the premises of ASF’s office. The purpose was to case follow-up and commitment on how to enhance legal assistance to the survivors.

The ASF Executive Director Sarder Jahangir Hossain chaired the meeting. The meeting was anchored by Ms. Tahmina Islam, ASF Coordinator-Case and Partnership Management. The partner organizations’ representatives were Ekramul Haque, BRAC Program Coordinator, Mollika Sarker, ASK Lawyer, Nighat Seema, BNWLA Deputy Director, Advocate Shahanaz Akter, Naripokkho Assistant Project Manager, Sirajul Islam, Branch Coordinator, Bangladesh Manabadhikar Bastobayan Sangstha, Sifat- E – Noor, BLAST, Kamrun Nahar, Representative, Good Neighbors Bangladesh, Sabrin Mahamuda, ASF Legal Officer, Hridita Mustahfiz, ASF Coordinator- HealthCare.
The meeting was very interactive and participatory. A number of decisions were taken to reinforce the partners’ efforts. Thanks to the representatives of the partners for their interest, participation, and commitment to ensuring justice for survivors.
On May 09, ASF Executive Director Sarder Jahangir Hossain and Communications Officer Sabekun Nahar Azmi were interviewed by El Reichenbach, a sophomore at The Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio, for her deep-dive research project on acid attacks and acid attack survivors.

In the course of the interview, ASF talked about key motives behind acid violence, reasons why corrosives are readily accessible to the public, factors hindering litigation, and how the public can aware of the issue and extend support.
The Energypac Electronics’ staff representatives sponsored and joined an IFTAR event with acid survivors. ASF organized the event unobtrusively with the available acid survivors and staff members on 27 April 2022 in the ASF office. ASF representatives briefed the guests about ASF’s integrated journey, bio-psycho-social model interventions, accomplishments, short stories, challenges, and the future dream for change.

The ASF Executive Director, Mr. Sarder Jahangir Hossain thanks Mr. Ahmed Mashroor Huda, Vice President of Energypac Electronics with his team for the spontaneous motivation to visit ASF and spend some time with the survivors during the month of Ramadan and for his patience in listening to us enthusiastically. Mr. Huda said he learned a lot about ASF and appreciated ASF’s great work. The Executive Director also encouraged the EnergyPac Group and other Corporates as well may come forward, as part of their corporate social responsibilities (CSR), while ASF facing a serious funding gap, to support ASF’s integrated journey of freeing Bangladesh fully from acid violence and creating opportunities for the survivors to live a life with dignity.
