০৮/০৮/২০২৩ থেকে ১০/০৮/২০২৩ তারিখ পর্যন্ত বগুড়া জেলায় “Strengthening Acid Survivors’ Network (ASN) to eliminate acid and other forms of gender-based violence” প্রকল্পের আওতায় কয়েকটি কার্যক্রম অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। কার্যক্রম গুলির মধ্যে রয়েছে হেলথ ক্যাম্প,বাজার কাম্পাইন এবং স্কুল ক্যাম্পইন । এসিড সারভাইভারস ফাউন্ডেশন এর একটি টিম (ডাক্তার, লিগ্যাল অফিসার, প্রকল্পের ফোকাল পারসন, ডাটা কালেক্টর ) বগুড়া যায় এবং লাইট হাউজের সহায়তায় ২২ জন সারভাইভারকে চিকিৎসা সেবা, ৮ জনকে আইনি সেবা ,পাশাপাশি ২২ জন সারভাইভারের বর্তমান তথ্য গ্রহণ করা হয়। এছাড়া সচেতনতা মূলক কার্যক্রম যেমন- স্কুল ক্যাম্পইন,বাজার ক্যাম্পইন এ অংশগ্রহণ ও অনুষ্ঠান পর্যালোচনা করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের আলোচনায় এসিড সহিংসতা, বাল্য বিয়ে, যৌন হয়রানি, মাদক,পারিবারিক কলহ এই বিষয় গুলি প্রাধান্য পেয়েছে। আলোচনার বিষয় বস্তু নিয়ে অংশগ্রহণকারীদের জানার আগ্রহ ছিল প্রবল । তারা চায় সমাজ পরিবর্তনে এই উক্ত বিষয় নিয়ে যেন লাইট হাউজ এবং এ এস এফ সব সময় কাজ করে। অনুষ্ঠান গুলিতে এ এস এফ প্রতিনিধি এবং লাইট হাউজ প্রতিনিধি উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

Burn violence by ex-husband
Sadia Akter, age 20 years, a sufferer of a cruel burn violence at Shibchar, Madaripur. The incidence took place at night around 9.00pm on 16th August, 2023 by the ex-husband named Sumon Shikder, age 26 years. The accused threw inflammable substance on the body of that house-wife by entering their house. Her head, face and various parts of her body were burnt. She is currently undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The accused is the driver of the speedboat. Four years ago, Sumon Shikder, got married to Sadia Akter. They also have a daughter. They got divorced recently due to family disputes. According to Sadia’s mother he is also a drug addict.
After the divorce, the accused used to go to Sadia’s father’s house and create problems. Later, the accused got angry and committed this violence along with other accomplice.
A multi-disciplinary team of ASF visited Sadia Akter at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on 21st August, 2023 and consulted with the family members of the survivor in order to know her health condition, identify their needs and how ASF can support them.
The Legal Officer of ASF contacted to the police station to know the status of the case. According to the police, a case has been filed at Shibchar Police Station accusing Sumon and other accomplice. The police has arrested one of them and main accused is still fugitive. They are trying to arrest him as soon as possible.

Job Context:
Acid Survivors Foundation has a twenty bedded specialized burn care hospital to run this hospital smoothly we need a dedicated and potential Medical Officer.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Carry out initial assessment of all patients brought to ASF attention & resuscitate them according to their condition.
- Ensure that all ASF registered patients are getting appropriate treatment as required individually.
- Ensuring proper diet and dressing for the patient.
- Consulting with respective consultant surgeons regularly & follow up of patient.
- Ensure comprehensive services for the patients.
- Prompt management of any emergencies when arises.
- Select and prepare patient for operation.
- Making operation plan for patient, coordinate and arrange surgery accordingly.
- Assist the consultant surgeons during surgeries.
- Provide pre and postoperative care to patients with regular follow up.
- Ensure screening of old patients & perform reconstructive surgeries as required.
- Maintain & update of all medical records for individual patient including surgery notes and anesthetic records.
- Ensure photo documentation & record keeping of proper photography of individual patients.
- Prepare Case Study for medical purpose.
- Regular update of patient’s records in MIS is mandatory.
- Supervise regular update of medicine stock & submission of requisition to get approval from Medical Manager for procurement of medicines, instruments and other accessories of Jibon Tara Hospital.
- Regular keep informing the supervisor about medicine, instruments & clinical progress of patients.
- Supervise physiotherapists & patient’s progress accordingly.
- Coordinate with Social Workers, Counselors, and Psychotherapists & Physiotherapists during patient’s discharge planning.
- Coordinating with consultants & doctors of DMCH and other hospitals to facilitate the treatment.
- Attend foreign and local visitors.
- Assist the Medical Manager to improve medical services to the patients.
- Issuing Medical Certificates to the patients.
- Appear court witness frequently in different districts of Bangladesh.
- Field visit when necessary.
- Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Necessary Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Language proficiency in English is essential.
- Flexibility and strong commitment to the following field.

Location: Based in Dhaka and will be required for field visits.
Educational Qualification: The candidate should have a minimum M.B.B.S degree and should be registered to Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).
Experience Requirements: Minimum 02 years of work experience in the relevant field.
Age: Age should not exceed 40 years.
Job Nature: Full-time Contractual
Salary: Monthly gross salary BDT 33,000 consolidated
Other Benefits: Weekly 2 holidays, Festival bonus, Mobile Allowance as per the Human Resource Policy Manual of the organization.
Workdays and work hours: 5 days a week from Sunday- Thursday. Office Time is 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

A 2-day long training on Leadership held in Bogura district during 28-29 May, 2023 under a project “Strengthening Acid Survivors’ Network to eliminate acid and other gender-based violence” which is funded by the Australian Government. A group of 15 acid survivors from Bogura district participated in the training. The main objective of the training was to enhance skill set of the survivors on how to negotiate and to get the support from the Government and Private sectors. Trainers discussed in details what qualities a leader should have and how a leader can move an organization forward. Two trainers conducted the training.
The training was inaugurated by Mr. Haroon-or-Rashid, Chief Executive, Light House. ASF representative Tahmina Islam, Coordinator- Program Unit was present in the training. Participants were very happy to receive the training. Light House organized the training and coordinated by the Acid Survivors Foundation.

Vaggo Rani Bauri, 18 years, underwent an acid attack on 14th May, 2023 at Rajnagar, Moulvibazar.
Accused Lal Chan Bauri, age 26 years, had been harassing that survivor for long. Recently he proposed her for marriage and she refused his proposal. The perpetrator couldn’t take that refusal and threw acid at her around 9.30 pm while she was cooking. After hearing her scream, one of her cousin poured water on her, according to her brother.
Survivor’s right eye and cheek were burnt. She got her treatment from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
Her brother filed a case in Rajnagar Police Station. The police arrested the perpetrator on 15th May, 2023 and produced before the Court. The Court sent him in the Jail.
The Acid Survivors Foundation communicated with survivors’ family and asked about their initial needs and suggested to visit ASF as soon as possible.
Legal officer of ASF provided legal advices to her brother and communicated with the Officer-In- Charge, Inspector and Investigation Officer of Rajnagar Police Station to provide legal services to the survivor.
