Report on 15th LAG meeting, 2023

0n 31st January 2023, the Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) arranged the 15th Legal Advisory Group (LAG) meeting with their Legal Aid partners at the premises of ASF’s office. The purpose was to case follow-up and commitment on how to ensure legal services for the survivors. Mr. Sarder Jahangir Hossain, The Executive Director of ASF, chaired the meeting which was anchored by Ms. Tahmina Islam, Coordinator-Case and Partnership Management of ASF, Ms. Sabrin Mahamuda, Jr. Legal Officer- ASF, who discussed acid attack statistics and cases, and Tabassum Chowdhury, Medical Officer- ASF also joined the meeting.

The participants from different organizations were; Nighat Seema (Deputy Director-Legal and Protection, Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association), Adv. Shahanaz Akter (Assistant Project Manger-Naripokkho), Joyshri Sarker (Programme Manager, BRAC), Ananya Chakraborty (Project Coordinator-Bangladesh Legal Aid Services and Trust).

The meeting was very participatory and a number of decisions were taken in the meeting.

Report on South Asian Club (SAC) Festival at AISD

 

The American International School Dhaka (AISD) organized the Annual South Asian Club (SAC) Festival held on 2nd December 2022 in Baridhara, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Around 600 guests (mostly foreigners) including students, teachers, and delegates from the Embassies joined the event. As invited, ASF participated in the event in order to building awareness and fundraising. ASF exchanged with the guests and sold the souvenirs and snacks prepared by survivors, as a part of the ASF rehabilitation initiative. It was an interesting experience of ASF. Thanks to the organizers of AISD.

Childs are the light of a nation!

To celebrate National Girl Child Day, 2022, National Girl Child Advocacy Forum (NGCAF) organized a program on October 04, 2022 at Bangladesh Shishu Academy. A team from the Acid Survivors Foundation participated in that program.

Initiative to change: Training on Right Based Approach

A 2-day’s training workshop has been organized by ASF, powered by Mutual Trust Bank, and facilitated by immensely skilled and experienced trainer Dr. Motahar Akand on 20-21 September 2022. The younger generation of Acid survivors of Bangladesh took part in the training course titled, “Rights Based Approach”. May in the near future these youths will bring changes in societal aspects, remove miseries and work for human rights.
