Ms. Nurun Nahar Begum is a gender expert with a professional career spanning eighteen years that includes immerse experience in the field of development. Following the completion of her Political Science Master’s from National University, her professional career began in 2000 as a counselor with COOPI Bangladesh, an organization funded by Italian Government. Following this, she joined ActionAid Bangladesh and continuing her work there till date. Over the last nearly fifteen years at AAB, Ms. Nahar has accomplished significant achievements and earned recognition within the wide ActionAid network that covers 49 countries.
During her career, she has contributed in developing program strategies supporting women’s rights at both a local and national level, facilitating women’s rights activities at the grass-root level, providing training and in-depth information on gender at grassroots level, leadership & movement building, grooming women in emergency situations for creating women led emergency response through partner organizations, strengthening ActionAid’s advocacy intervention at a policy level with relevant stakeholders, facilitating ‘Sex Workers Network’, ‘Acid Survivors Network’ and ‘Stop Violence Against Women Network’, and overseeing ActionAid’s data management system by documenting and disseminating institutional knowledge across the organization.
Besides managing her regular responsibilities, Ms. Nahar is an active member of EFAST (Emergency first aid support team in ActionAid Bangladesh), SANGAT-a South Asian Feminist Network and One Billion Rising Campaign Bangladesh, member of Anti-sexual harassment committee in Dania University College and Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology.
For her work, Ms. Nahar was awarded Anna Top Ten Award in 2013 and the SOS Bangladesh Community Champion Award in June 2019.
