Sharmin Akter Ankhi, a 24-year-old college student of Eden College in Dhaka who was thrown acid and stabbed with knife brutally allegedly by an acquaintance named Monir as sequel of refusing marriage proposal in a marriage resister’s office of Dhaka urban area on Jan 15 2013. Now she had been treated with 25 percent burn injuries on her face and other parts of the body at Burn & Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, she has been undergone surgery four times. On the day of the incident, Ankhi was called over the phone by the perpetrator asked her to go to a marriage register office in Chankharpul. On her reaching there at about, Monir pressurized her to go to a marriage registrar's office and forced her to marry him. A dispute followed as she refused, and at one stage Monir brought out a bottle of acid from his bag and poured it on Ankhi's face which splashed other parts of her body. Furthermore, Monir stabbed her with a knife subsequently even as she yelled in pain. Finally, the perpetrator Monir was arrested following sentenced to two years jail and under trial for committing the crime.
